Celebration of Volunteering;

The TPSA were present at the  ‘Celebration of Volunteering’ Event organised by the Torbay Volunteer Service , on the 5th June 2919 at Union Square, Torquay.

The event ran from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and our site was manned by 3 of our Trustees; Peter Hosking, Brian Sykes and Robin Causley.

The main objective was, of course, to create a greater awareness of Prostate Cancer, and in this, we were successful in persuading more than one gentleman to  ask his doctor for a PSA test.

Chairman Peter Hosking and Trustee David Wakefield have agreed to participate in the first-ever ‘Crediton Relay for Life’ on 11th September 2010.

As part of this event, the organisers are looking for cancer survivors to join in. They will be Guests of Honour and will open the  Crediton Relay for Life, by walking the first lap. There will then be a dedicated VIP survivors hospitality tent, where they can go after the lap and enjoy the entertainment.

This is a 24 hour, overnight, team walking event. 8-15 people enter a team and take it in turns to walk around a track for 24 hours. Teams fundraising before and during the event and the money they raise goes to the charity.

During the 24 hours, there will be many small events, such as karaoke, cake decorating, face painting, arts and crafts, fashion show, quiz, 5-a-Side football, bands, DJ's, team stalls and a mini sports day.

The Organisers hope to bring together the local community and honour, and remember, those who have been effected by the illness in some way.

If anyone is interested in joining in, contact Peter Hosking 01803-842886 or David Wakefield 01626-201326.
