Benefit from the experiences of others
You may have had to endure months of treatment by knife, chemicals or radiation until you are probably sick of the whole business, both literally and metaphorically.
What should be happening now is a move to complement the expertise displayed by the medical staff in their treatment of you to ensure a sensible approach to your recovery.
No matter how much information you may receive from the hospital, no one can really tell you what it's like unless they have been through it themselves.
Two of our Trustees, Peter Hoskings and David Wakefield, recently completed a course organised and run by the MacMillan Cancer Support that was designed to ensure that those acting as Buddies were adequately equipped to undertake such important tasks as informing and advising on various forms of cancer.
This does not indicate that they have a high level of medical knowledge; there is no substitute for medically trained, highly experienced personnel,
but but it does show that they understand the need for a sympathetic and understanding manner of relating there own experiences, and experiences that they have had with other recently diagnosed patients and recently treated patients.
Don’t Delay -
